Our Services

The Intermediate School counselors work with students, parents, teachers, administrators and outside agency personnel to help support students emotionally, academically and physically.  We work with students individually, in groups and in classroom guidance lessons.  Our lessons and counseling focus on developing students’ interpersonal competencies, academic success and college and career visions

Guidance Curriculum – A developmentally structured lesson approach for grades 3, 4 and 5.  These lessons are designed to assist students in developing knowledge and academic, personal/social and career skills based on the American School Counselor’s Association (ASCA) standards.

Individual Student Planning– Assist students in establishing personal goals and develop future plans through an ongoing systemic process, such as occupational planning, decision-making, goal setting and preparation for academic transitions.

Prevention, Intervention and Responsive Services-  Meeting students’ individual needs by providing counseling services, consulting with educators or outside agencies, and assisting with obtaining available services to better serve the student’s more immediate concerns.

System Support – The purpose of these activities is to establish, maintain or enhance the school counseling program.  These activities include:  consultation, collaboration, professional development, records management, assessments and program development.

Counselors work with each classroom through the fall, winter and early spring to address important issues with all students.  Based on American School Counselor Association standards, we focus on academic skills, social/emotional issues, and college and career awareness. By providing this information to all students in a fun and informative format, we are able to help all students toward a successful future.

Some students have concerns that are not directly addressed in classroom lessons.  Other students need additional instruction and reminders in the core social/emotional, academic and career domains.  For those students, counselors run small groups during lunch and/or recess times.  Students use games, stories, role play and discussions to deepen their understanding of the topics.

Students are welcome to contact the counselors any time an issue arises at school or home for which they feel the need for individual attention.  We work with students one-on-one in our offices, giving students a chance to express concerns, be heard, and problem-solve possible solutions.
